DAINA SGARIOTO
Artist

Daina Sgarioto (she/her) is an emerging artist working on Wurundjeri Land. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Ceramics) from RMIT University and is currently completing a Masters of Secondary Teaching, specialising in Visual Arts.
Daina works primarily with ceramics and textiles, drawing on her background in painting and illustration to inform her practice. Her work blends colour, abstraction and an innate humour.
She uses punchy, satirical wit to celebrate the mundane and to laugh at the comedy often embedded in painful experiences; her work comments on the silliness of life and reminds us not to take it all too seriously.
Her use of text and composition offers nuance, facetiously hinting at deeper emotional or social commentary beneath the surface.
Whether tufted, sculpted or drawn, each piece holds a personal thread, making space for comfort and piss-takes in creative form.
